Our intention here is to get rid of String Translation entirely as we've been informed that it is slower to work with than simply having WP load the MO files - hence why we're wondering where those need to go to be recognized.Īlong with that, is there a quicker way to remove 1000s of String Translation entries (ones we never intend to translate and added by accident by scanning more plugins/themes than we needed), other than picking 100 at a time from the list screen? Is there a SQL query that accomplishes this?Īs far as I know, the PO/MO files need to be added to wp-conntent/languages/plugins (or themes, if you add PO/MO of a theme). Just simply choose the PO file and the text domain. Just simply go to WPML → String Translation, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and check the right side, the Import / export. There's a simple way to import the PO files. Thank you for reaching out to the WPML support! We've tried /wp-content/languages/wpml as that's where the text domain we exported (hope_industrial) seemed to have its initial MO file, but I'm not sure that's where edited/updated imports go. We made sure those strings were correct within each file and saved (updating/creating MO files) but we're not sure where in the WP directory structure they ought to be re-placed in order to be picked up by the translation routines. We were informed by an optimization consultant that having thousands of untranslated entries in the String Translation table might be causing severe slowdown so we took just the strings we were interested in translating and exported them to PO files (for 7 langs) and removed most/all of the String Translation strings as we're no longer interested in having them be admin-editable we're fine making PO/MO updates instead.
